STPI centre in Meerut inaugurated by MoS IT

Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday inaugurated the fifth software technology park in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and said the state is rapidly evolving as a technology and investment hub.

Chandrasekhar also announced a scholarship for a ninth class student, who developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution ‘Mitti ko jaano, fasal Pehchano’, an official release said.

The road to ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ goes through Uttar Pradesh, Chandrasekhar said while inaugurating the software technology park in Meerut.

The minister cited the example of class ninth student Nandini Kushwaha, daughter of a farmer from Lalitpur, who participated in the AI for Youth challenge, organised by the Ministry of Electronics and IT in partnership with Intel. She worked out an AI solution titled ‘mitti ko jano, fasal pahchano’.

The new STPI-Meerut centre is expected to play a key role in empowering the tech startups and MSMEs to boost software exports and create job opportunities while attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and realising the vision of Digital Uttar Pradesh, the release said.

STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) -Meerut would play a significant role in expanding the IT footprint of Uttar Pradesh and empowering the budding tech entrepreneurs and innovators of Tier-2 and 3 cities to translate their ideas into innovative products.

In FY 2020-21, STPI-registered units contributed Rs 4,96,313 crore to IT and ITeS (IT enabled services) exports, in which Uttar Pradesh contributed Rs 22,671 crore.

“The transformation happened in UP during last five years is immense. Various companies investing in technology urged to invest in UP, and this is a significant shift. Digital India has played a key role in empowering students to become innovative & entrepreneurial. The road to Digital India will be road through Digital Uttar Pradesh,” noted Chandrasekhar.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and Information Technology Tuesday said the new Software Technology Park of India (STPI)-Meerut will make Uttar Pradesh a digital hub in the next five years by attracting investors and transforming the state into a leader in technology entrepreneurship.

The transformation happened in UP during last five years is immense. Various companies investing in technology urged to invest in UP, and this is a significant shift. Digital India has played a key role in empowering students to become innovative & entrepreneurial. The road to Digital India will be road through Digital Uttar Pradesh,” noted Chandrasekhar.

Chandrasekhar made the statement while inaugurating the STPI-Meerut in the presence of Lok Sabha MP Rajendra Agrawal; MLA Somendra Tomar; MLA Satyaprakash Agrawal, Arvind Kumar, Director General, STPI and Bhuvnesh Kumar, Joint Secretary, MeitY.

STPI-Meerut is the 62nd Centre of STPI and comes under the jurisdictional directorate of STPI-Noida.

It has an area of 25,074 sq. ft., a plug-n-play space of 3,704 sq. ft. with 133 seats, and an incubation space of 2,021 sq. ft. supported with high-speed communication facilities.

“STPI-Meerut centre will play a catalytic role in empowering the tech start-ups & MSMEs of the region to boost software exports and create employment opportunities while attracting FDI and realising the vision of Digital Uttar Pradesh,” said an official statement.

The new STPI-Meerut will also empower the budding tech entrepreneurs and innovators of tier-2/3 cities to translate their unique ideas into innovative products.

“STPI has embarked on dispersing IT industry to these cities and also implementing NGIS program to nurture tech entrepreneurs & startups in Tier-2/3 cities to develop innovative products in emerging technologies by providing seed funding,” said Arvind Kumar, DG, STPI.

In FY 2020-21, STPI-registered units contributed Rs. 4,96,313 crore to IT/ITeS exports in which Uttar Pradesh contributed Rs. 22,671 crore, according to the official statement.

Meerut, 28th December 2021:  Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and Information Technology inaugurated the STPI-Meerut, the 62nd Centre of STPI on 28th December 2021 in the august presence of Shri Rajendra Agrawal, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha); Shri SomendraTomar, Hon’ble MLA; Shri Satyaprakash Agrawal, Hon’ble MLA;  Shri Arvind Kumar, Director General, STPI and Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, Joint Secretary, MeitY at ITP-03, Near NH-58 Bypass, Vedvyas Puri Yojna, Meerut.

“Nandini Kushwaha, a 9th class student & daughter of a farmer from Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh and winner for creating AI solution in a national level competition is a glaring example of how Digital India has played a transformational role in empowering students from Tier-2/3 cities to become innovative & entrepreneurial. I have personally intervened and arranged a scholarship for her higher education in technology and eventually fulfil her wish to become a scientist,” accentuated Hon’ble minister.

“STPI-Meerut will play a catalytic role in making UP a digital hub in next five years by attracting investors and transforming the state into a leader in technology entrepreneurship,” he further added. 

“Meerut Expressway has abridged the distance between Delhi & Meerut; moreover, the establishment of STPI-Meerut centre will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and encourage entrepreneurs to start investing in this city while creating immense opportunities for the local youth to get employed,” said Shri Rajendra Agrawal, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) on this occasion.

STPI has also played a phenomenal role in promoting Tier-II/Tier-III cities of the country.  Out of 62 STPI centres, 54 Centres are in Tier-II and Tier-III locations with an objective of a uniform and overall development of IT/ITES exports across the country. STPI has been nurturing tech start-ups ecosystem by implementing Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS) and establishing Centre of Entrepreneurship (CoEs) in emerging technologies pan-India.

Shri Arvind Kumar, DG, STPI said, “A latest report suggests that large companies want to shift their operation from Tier-1 cities to Tier-2/3 cities for cost-effective production. STPI has embarked on dispersing IT industry to these cities and also implementing NGIS program to nurture tech entrepreneurs & startups in Tier-2/3 cities to develop innovative products in emerging technologies by providing seed funding.”
