STPI-Hyderabad is one of the ten STPI jurisdictions having its main centre in Hyderabad, Telangana and five sub-centres located at Kakinada, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Warangal. STPI-Hyderabad has been the backbone for the growth of software and hardware industry in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana since last three decades and has enabled Hyderabad to emerge as one of the leading IT clusters in India.
STPI-Hyderabad has warranted the growth of software exports from the Telangana region and generated employment and entrepreneurial opportunities by buoying the economic progress of the nation. In FY 2020-21, STPI-registered units under STPI-Hyderabad jurisdiction contributed Rs. 72,457 crore software exports.
STPI-Hyderabad was started in 1992 with 11 STPI-registered units working from the complex with ready-to-use space of 5,700 sq. m. for member units. Six units were operating outside the complex.
The Role of STPI in the growth of the IT industry has been tremendous, especially in the case of start-up SMEs. STP scheme the catalyst The STP scheme is a 100 percent export-oriented scheme for the development and export of computer software, including export of professional services using communication links or physical media. This scheme is unique in its nature as it focuses on one product/sector, i.e. computer software. The scheme integrates the government concept of 100 percent Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and the concept of Science Parks/Technology Parks, as operating elsewhere in the world. The total exports from the STPI-registered units under STPI-Hyderabad has gone from Rs. 4.76 crore in 1992-93 to Rs. 72,457 crore in FY 2020-21.
IMAGE
IMAGE CoE, an initiative by STPI at Hyderabad to provide resources such as mentoring, technology support and funding for Gaming, Animation, VFX, Computer Vision and AI startups, was launched 17th February 2020. With 10,000 sq. ft. built-up space at STPI-Hyderabad, IMAGE offers integrated programs, CVLAB and GameLab, for startups to scale up through its incubation facility. IMAGE has onboarded 11 startups. IMAGE has 37 mentors, 8 partners, and it has conducted 5 training/mentorship programs.
Upcoming CoE in Industry 4.0 at Visakhapatnam
The proposal for establishment of CoE in Industry 4.0 by STPI at Visakhapatnam, partnering with RINL, supported by Govt. of AP and other key stake holders including AP IT Association, IIM Vizag, etc is under consideration for approval by MeitY.
STPI has expanded its presence pan-India since its inception in 1991 with 3 centres to disperse tech-driven entrepreneurship to Tier-II/III cities. Today, STPI has 62 centres of which 54 centres are in Tier-II/III cities. These centres have been playing a pivotal role in boosting IT/ITeS/ESDM exports from the respective region, generating employment, and fostering startups to develop software products.
